Czestochowa - Pilgrims

Czestochowa, Poland is the location of the Jasna Gora monastery which features the iconic Black Madonna portrait.

Each August many thousands of Roman Catholic pilgrims travel to Czestchowa for the Feast of the Assumption celebrations celebrated on August 15th.

Many of the pilgrims will walk across Poland from their home towns to attend, some will walk for over one week.

The images shown here were taken the day before the open air mass on the 15th August and show pilgrims arriving in Czestochowa and at the Jasna Gora site.
